Cartogram Map

A cartogram is a map in which some thematic mapping variable is substituted for land area or distance. The geometry or space of the map is distorted in order to convey the information of this alternate variable.
This map illustrates the results of the popular vote in the 1996 U.S. presidential election. Each state is colored either a shade of red or a shade of blue, and is distorted either enlarged or diminished to reflect the number of votes each candidate received.
